Of all the topics that are posted on the Archery Talk Board, "How can I get my peep to turn correctly" is one of the most common. One of the answers I found surprising was, "Buy one of the most expensive strings and if it does not work buy another. Keep doing this until you find one that works." I shoot $20.00 strings and they turn fine for me. It is not the string but how I mount it that makes it align. The problem is the impact and the vibration that occurs at the completion of the shot. With some bows the impact is so great it smashes plastic peep sights. (Nite Hawk Peeps are metal not plastic, No Problem) To get your peep to align you need to reduce the vibration and stabilize the ends of the bowstring. When this is done any string will align fine. This is what I recommend. 1. Be sure you silence both your string and cables. If nothing else use surgical tubing. The tube you use to align peeps. I tie two, two inches pieces on my bowstring, top and bottom. Put one on each cable. Split the tubes and tie them on with two knots. Do it so at least ½ inch is loose on each end. They go on quick and last up to a year. 2. At the eyes of your bow string insert a straight pin so when mounted the pin will rest against the face of the cam and cut it off so it is about 3/8 inch long. This pin should keep your string from turning when it vibrates. It also makes adding and removing twist much more accurate. 3. If you have a new string, install a tube aligner above your peep. Shoot your bow for a week or two and then adjust your peep alignment. Even the so-called prestretched strings, will stretch when shot several hundred times. Except the situation and avoid the frustration; use the aligner. 4. Train your self to always nock your arrow onto the string in the same alignment with your peep. It works for me. |
It ties in about ¾ inch above the peep. This keeps the stem of the aligner from interfering with the peep. It is also the only aligner that adjusts. You can bend the stem to make your peep align without concern for the twist of your bowstring. Full directions come with the aligner. |
Nite Hawk Tube Aligner |
If you are a hunter first, use the aligner. It has little effect on your accuracy, and insures your peep will align accurately every time. Even when your heart is pounding and you find you are no longer breathing. It has happened to me. |
When you order your peeps strongly consider ordering an aligner. They too are inexpensive $3.95 and you don't want to recieve your order and start wishing you had an aligner. |
